We are thrilled to begin our seventh Beers & Bocce Season on Tuesday, January 7th. Our Beers & Bocce league members will compete against skilled teams, build friendships, and create lasting memories thoughout the fall season.
Season Notes
It’s important that all teams approach each match with sportsmanship, respect, and integrity as we strive to maintain a fair and safe playing environment for all participants. Please take note of the league rules and regulations to ensure that every team and player understands and adheres to these guidelines.
Throughout the season, we’ll provide you with scheduling updates, game locations, and important league information, including bocce banter. Please make sure that all team members have access to this information.
We wish your team the best of luck for the upcoming month and can’t wait to see you on the bocce court in June!
Game Play
Games will be held every Tuesday night at 6:00pm and 7:15pm. Teams must have at least four players participating on each game night, but we encourage more players to join. You can have three players on each end, with one person rolling two balls. Therefore, we recommend that teams have at least six – eight players on their roster.

$150 per team
This will encompass everything related to league organization, including setup, standings, and administration.
Each bocce night, players have an opportunity to win weekly prizes.
Registration: Team Captains
Each team will have a team captain. This person is the leader and self-organizer of the team, messaging teammates about upcoming games and ensuring there are enough players for each game (4). They will be the point of contact for their team and ensure every player adheres to the rules of the bocce league on game nights and throughout the week.
The team captain will be the main contact with the bocce ref each night. Checking in upon arrival and informing who will be in the lineup that evening.
Free Agents
If you do not have enough players to form a team but would still like to participate in league play, register as a free agent. We will use this list of players to form a team (if there are enough fun players looking to play) or to reach out when teams need a sub!
La Ale Works Bocce League Guidelines
- LA Ale Works League plays on Tuesday nights; three matches
- Each Match is a best of three games: The games are played to 11 points; The first team to win 2 games wins the match.
- The top teams make the playoffs
- Each team has a Captain – along with a unique team name. The Captain is the primary contact with the Bocce Director, Brennan Cassidy. The Captain also informs their teammates of league games and ensures their team has the required 4 players each week.
- A team can have substitute players, but substitute players can’t already play on another team in the league.
- In the 6:00PM game, if a team doesn’t have at least 3 players by 6:10PM, they forfeit the first game. A team forfeits the second game (and the match) at 6:20PM. For the 7:00PM game, the same rules apply unless a game starts late. If so, the 10-minute clock starts once the 6:00PM game finishes.
- Games can be played with 3 players, but the team of 3 will only be permitted to roll 3 balls. The fourth ball will be set to the side and not used during the match. The team of 3 will need to walk both ends of the court to roll each frame.
- If the 6:00PM game isn’t finished within 55 minutes (6:55PM), players are notified that once they complete the existing frame, only 2 frames remain. The team with the highest score after those 2 frames will win the game. If it’s a tie at that point, one additional frame will decide the winner of the game. If they’re still in the second game when this occurs, and after the final 2 frames are played, the match is tied 1-1, the 3rd game is a 2 frame game (with a third frame played is tied after the two frames). This 55-minute rule applies to the evening games as soon as the first pallino is rolled.
- Each team is allowed to have 8 players play per match. Once the players are set for game one and the first ball is rolled.
- If a team only has 4 players, 2 players play on each end of the court
- If there are 3 or 4 players on each side of the court: players are allowed to rotate who throws two balls.
- No players are ever allowed to roll three balls in a frame.
- No set lineup is required for throwing order during a frame.
- Once the first frame is rolled, players are not allowed to switch ends until the game is complete.
- If the games are not called by the League Director, the team who cannot make the scheduled match will forfeit. There will be no makeup games allowed.
- In the event of a tie to receive the final playoff spot(s); 1) We tally head-to-head matchups 2) If not resolved, we will go into a tiebreaker: The team with the most matches won in two frames (not going into the third frame). 3) If that does not resolve it, we will add up all points scored from the season and most points will move on.
- When the palino is Rolled at the start of the Frame, it must land a minimum Bocce Ball length away from the side wall. If it is closer, it will be treated as if it were not to cross the halfway line or if it were to hit the back wall.
THE BAY Guidelines (when we’re ready to put them in play)
Rolling the Bay is allowed and encouraged. If a team has point and holds the last ball of the frame, a Bay can be called. If the last ball ends closer than the opponent’s closest ball, they are awarded an additional point on top of their scoring balls. If unsuccessful, they will minus a point from their total score of the Frame.
- If The Bay ball pushed the opponent’s ball closest to the pallino, the other team received 1 point for the closest ball along with an additional point for a failed Bay attempt (totaling in 2 points for the opposite team).
- The Bay ball must not disrupt the frame in terms of scoring points. Meaning if team red has 2 points before The Bay has been thrown, and The Bay ball knocks 1 of those points away but is still closer than Green’s closest ball, it is an incomplete Bay, and Red is awarded just 1 point. (has 2 balls closets, minus 1 for an incomplete bay = 1 point).
- Adding points to the frame does not consist of disrupting the frame. The Bay ball can move its own balls closer to the pallino and gain more points. This is not disrupting the frame, only adding to it.
- i. If team red has 2 balls closer before The Bay is thrown. The Bay ball then gains point by getting closer than the opponent’s closets ball AS WELL as moving another red ball closer, the team red would then have a complete Bay and receive 4 points plus the additional Bay point (5-point frame).
- Equal Distance Rule – If The Bay ball comes equal distance of the opposing teams closest ball, it is an incomplete bay. The Bay ball has to gain point (be closer to the opponent’s closest ball).
